This year's theme is Clarity. In light of recent events, especially on the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor campus, GenAPA wishes to broaden the definition of what it means to be a part of the Asian/Pacific Islander American (A/PIA) community. There are many labels that can fall under the umbrella term of “A/PIA”, with others often pushed to the margins. We want to show that our community is more than the stereotypes that are pushed onto us. Our responsibility is to encourage our own A/PIA community to be more open-minded and learn more about what A/PIA actually emcompasses. By promoting awareness and showcasing A/PIA culture through the arts, we hope to strengthen our community while also inviting others to explore and be inspired by our redefined identity.
